  3. FATF Week – October 2024

The first Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary under the two-year Mexico Presidency of Elisa de Anda Madrazo will take place on 23-25 October and will conclude FATF Week which starts on 21 October.

Delegates representing over 200 members of the Global Network and observer organisations, including the International Monetary Fund, the United Nations, the World Bank, INTERPOL and the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units, will participate in the Working Group and Plenary meetings in Paris during FATF Week.

Delegates will discuss key issues in the fight against the illicit financial flows that fuel crime and terror and undermine safety, security and sustainable economic growth. Among the issues on the agenda is the promotion of financial inclusion and the risk-based approach, a key priority of the FATF under its Mexican Presidency. This includes guidance for countries to understand the money laundering risk they face so that they can develop measures to effectively mitigate these risks.

Delegates will also discuss the assessment of measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing in Argentina and Oman as well as the progress made by some jurisdictions identified as presenting a risk to the financial system.

A summary of the Plenary’s decisions will be published on the FATF website following the conclusion of the meeting.

Press Conference

On Friday 25 October, the FATF President will hold a press conference to announce the outcomes of the Plenary after it has ended. The press conference is scheduled for 16:30 CEST.

Journalists who wish to attend the press conference, either in person or virtually, should contact the FATF media team at media@fatf-gafi.org. The deadline for in-person registration is Thursday 24 October at 16:00.
